Practice Update – Maternity Leave Closure

Due to maternity leave, Bright Space Therapy will be closed for an indefinite break from 13th August 2026.

What is the cost?

Therapy sessions are $190 for 50 minutes.

With a Mental Health Treatment Plan and GP referral, you can access a Medicare rebate of $85.20 per eligible session.

Who needs to provide consent for treatment?

In most situations, consent for treatment is required from both parents. Gaining consent from both parents helps minimise potential treatment disruptions, with the goal of keeping therapy as smooth and positive as possible for children.

There are some situations where consent from two parents is not applicable. This includes if a parent is deceased; if a child’s legal guardian is someone other than a biological parent; if a child has one legal guardian; or if there are court orders in place stating that one parent holds sole decision-making responsibility. If this applies for your family, please reach out to discuss this prior to your first appointment.

Can I access Medicare rebates?

Yes. With a referral from your GP and a Medicare Mental Health Treatment Plan, you can access a rebate of $85.20 per eligible session (up to 10 sessions per calendar year).

To make things easier, Medicare rebates can be processed online by your therapist after your session.

Do I need a GP referral?

A referral from your GP is needed if you will be accessing Medicare rebates.

If you are accessing services through NDIS funding or privately, a GP referral isn’t required.

GP referrals and Mental Health Treatment Plans can be provided by fax or email.

Can I use private health insurance?

As coverage can vary between insurers and policies, we recommend confirming directly with your provider if they cover counselling services from an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker.

Do you provide NDIS supports?

Bright Space Therapy can provide NDIS supports to self-managed and plan-managed participants. We are unable to deliver supports to NDIA-managed participants.
Supports are provided under the following item codes:

Early Childhood Supports (Under 7) – Early Childhood Professional – Item Code: 15_005_0118_1_3
Assessment Recommendation Therapy or Training – Social Worker – Item Code: 15_621_0128_1_3

Are there are services not provided?

Bright Space Therapy doesn’t provide the following services:

Cognitive and neurodevelopmental assessments (including ADHD and autism assessments)
Assessment, documentation or recommendations for family court proceedings
Home visit appointments
Bright Space Therapy does not accept referrals where there is significant conflict or current/upcoming legal or mediation processes related to child living arrangements and parenting. This is done in the spirit of making sure families get the right type of support for their needs.
